Katie Spragg British, b. 1987
5 7/8 x 9 x 2 3/8 in
This piece was made as part of a series following the birth of Katie Spragg's daughter. This prompted the artist to observe the plants around them from a new perspective; while they continue to be drawn to the detail and contrasting textures of the plants and grasses growing at ground level, they started admiring the horizontal view from her daughter's pram, focusing on the patterns of bare branches against the sky.
Around the time of making this work there were signs of the beginning of spring; potential new life just budding. This in combination with their daughter's viewpoint have inspired the magnolia branch.
