At its heart, The Walls Speak in Flowers is a celebration of collective making. Bringing together ceramic sconces and wall pockets by the artists of Common Clay, the exhibition explores the relationships, conversations and acts of exchange that shape a creative community. Ruup & Form’s connection with Common Clay began through gallery artist Carla Wright, whose practice has long embodied the values of material exploration, generosity and shared learning that sit at the heart of the collective. Through Carla, we were introduced to a wider community of makers whose diverse approaches are united by a commitment to craft, experimentation and mutual support.
As a shared studio, Common Clay is built upon the circulation of ideas, techniques and experiences. Knowledge passes between artists, conversations begun at one workbench find their way into another, and individual practices are enriched through a culture of learning, collaboration and exchange.
Taking its title from the resilience of growth, the exhibition reflects on how creativity flourishes through connection. Installed throughout the gallery, the works act as vessels for light and growth, tracing the networks of care, dialogue and shared making that underpin the collective’s practice. Together, the sconces and wall pockets transform the gallery into a living conversation between artists, materials and space, tracing the visible and invisible networks that bind a community together.
