Porcelain Dreams: A Celebration of Ethereal Beauty and Craftsmanship
London, May 2024 - Porcelain, with its ethereal allure, has long been revered for its ability to encapsulate both fragility and resilience in a single medium. Its smooth surface and translucent quality have mesmerized artisans and collectors across generations, serving as a timeless canvas for intricate designs and unparalleled craftsmanship.
We are delighted to announce the unveiling of a captivating exhibition titled ‘Porcelain Dreams’. This exhibition invites you to immerse yourself in the exquisite works of five distinguished artists, each contributing their unique vision and expertise to the world of porcelain art.
From delicate sculptures to intricate vessels, each piece in this collection is a testament to the skill and creativity of its creator. Through meticulous attention to detail and a deep reverence for the medium, these artists have brought forth a stunning array of porcelain masterpieces that will undoubtedly captivate and inspire all who behold them.
As part of the exhibition, Katie Spragg presents a stop-motion animation inspired by her residency at the Guldagergaard International Ceramic Research Centre in Denmark. Delving into the mystical influence of the moon on Earth's botanical life, Spragg's work blurs the line between scientific observation and imaginative interpretation, inviting viewers into a surreal world of enchantment and wonder.
Erum Aamir introduces a new series, ‘Quondam Somnium’, meticulously crafted porcelain sculptures inspired by microscopic and grand botanical landscapes. Each piece, from imaginative renditions to faithful replicas, echoes the overarching theme of 'Porcelain Dreams' in its distinctive manner, paying homage to the beauty of the natural world and celebrating human creativity.
Ana Bridgewater unveils her latest creation: a stunning porcelain chandelier inspired by the captivating allure of the sea. With its mesmerizing interplay of light and shadow, Bridgewater's piece adds an enchanting touch to the exhibition.
Crafted with meticulous care from shards of porcelain as delicate as paper, Egan's creations form miniature landscapes evoking abstracted rooms, cities, and houses. Influenced by the insights of Phyllis Richardson on architecture, Peter Gray on psychology, and Gaston Bachelard's "The Poetics of Space," her art explores the intricate connections between life's fragility, personal space, and memory. Isobel Egan’s presents Cityscape -a box structures as microcosms of architecture, serving as nurturing environments for the imagination. She emphasises how these creations symbolise the essential boundaries that define personal integrity.
The exhibition will be held at Ruup & Form, 7 Tilney Court, EC1V 9BQ from 9 May – 14 June 2024. Don't miss this opportunity to witness the timeless elegance of porcelain come to life through the vision of five exceptional artists: Lauren Nauman, Ana Bridgewater, Katie Spragg, Erum Aamir, and Anne Butler.
