As part of Ruup & Form’s presentation at Collect, this booth talk brings together textile artist Woo Jin Joo and ceramic artist Carla Wright in conversation, moderated by Varuna Kollanethu.
Material Mischief: Humour and Subversion explores wit, tactility and the quiet power of play within materially led practice. Framed by the gallery’s curatorial theme Grammar of Connection, the discussion positions making as a relational act, considering how ideas circulate, how knowledge is transmitted and how materials carry memory across time and context.
Textile and clay hold deep histories of care, labour and function. Both artists work within these rigorous traditions while allowing colour, form and subversion to introduce moments of lightness and surprise. Here, playfulness operates as a strategy to invite dialogue.
