Join us for Creatures of the Unexpected, a hands-on workshop inspired by the exhibition In Company of the Unexpected and Gwyneth Melling’s work In the Tallest Waterfall’s Pool.

Participants will be guided to imagine, build, and embroider their own fantastical creatures using a playful mix of textiles, felted forms, embroidery threads, fabric scraps, and found objects. Each creature will be mounted on a wooden stand, becoming a small sculpture to take home.

The workshop will take place in the gallery space itself, surrounded by the exhibition. Seating will be informal—stools or floor cushions—inviting participants to work closely among the artworks.

At the close of the session, guests are warmly invited to stay for our convivial drinks finissage, a celebratory gathering to mark the close of the exhibition.

About the artist

Gwyneth, a recent graduate of the Royal School of Needlework, is a multidisciplinary artist working in sculpture, textile, and embroidery. Her practice blurs reality and imagination, with stitch and fabric becoming portals into alternate worlds. Through soft sculpture and intricate embroidery, she creates tactile narratives that balance whimsy with precision. Committed to sustainability, she works with upcycled textiles, deadstock fabrics, and found objects, transforming them into imaginative forms that bridge the everyday and the fantastical.
