Ruup & Form presents Henrietta MacPhee at SOLO Contemporary, British Art Fair 2025

For the 2025 edition of the British Art Fair, Ruup & Form is proud to present Henrietta MacPhee in the SOLO Contemporary section. MacPhee magnifies the small things of daily existence. Working with clay, she creates still-life objects with a fresh perspective - fruits, flowers and natural forms we recognise, yet subtly transformed. They twist, wilt, grow, offering whimsical reimagining’s that invite both tenderness and humour.

At the fair, MacPhee unveils a new installation of flower vases—thrown, sculpted, painted and glazed, that echo the grandeur of 17th-century Dutch still-life painting. Here, however, the vases themselves appear to bloom, flowers sprout from their ceramic forms, while a painted rim at the base suggests another vessel, a vase within a vase. Behind them, flat clay ‘mirrors’ reflect the arrangement, playfully blurring the line between object and image, sculpture and painting.

Alongside this installation, MacPhee presents a series of miniature ceramic tile paintings. In these intimate works, clay becomes canvas, pigment and frame, capturing fleeting moments from her everyday life with quiet precision.

Her practice moves fluidly between two and three dimensions, inviting us to question our sense of the real and the unreal.  Varuna Kollanethu, Founder of Ruup & Form, comments: “Henrietta’s work embodies the vision of our gallery -materially rich, conceptually curious and emotionally resonant. We are delighted to present her at SOLO Contemporary this year.”

About Henrietta MacPhee

Henrietta MacPhee (b. 1985), ceramicist based in South London, creates expressive ceramic works that draw on a diverse background in classical studies and fine art. Having studied at King’s College London, Camberwell College of Art, and City Lit, she brings an unusual combination of narrative, history, and material sensitivity to her practice.

Her work has been exhibited widely across the United Kingdom and internationally, with selections for prestigious platforms such as the International Ceramics Festival in Wales and recognition as an Emerging Maker in 2019.

Recent solo exhibitions include Indian Miniatures at Durning Library (2025) and Oasis at Barbican Library (2023). Her work has also featured in major group exhibitions, among them the XIII Biennal Internacional de Ceramica Del Vendrell in Spain (2024), the ING Discerning Eye at Mall Galleries (2024), and the RBA Annual Exhibition (2024).

About Ruup & Form

Ruup & Form is a London based gallery dedicated to the meeting point of art, craft and design. We celebrate material-led practices and present works that move fluidly between disciplines, pieces that resist easy categorisation yet remain rooted in thoughtful making and narrative depth.

Our programme brings together both emerging and established artists, offering a platform for voices that expand the language of form, texture and presence. Through curated exhibitions, commissions and collaborations, we seek to create encounters that foster dialogue and nurture enduring connections between artists, collectors and audiences.

Situated in Tilney Court, just off Old Street, the gallery offers an intimate and reflective space. More than a gallery, Ruup & Form is a platform for discovery, conversation and community around the handmade and the visionary.
