Dokkaebi, a Korean mythical creature known to have formed from the spiritual possession of inanimate objects, is a recurring motif and inspiration for Woo Jin. The new series ‘Unfettered’ continues to expand on the theme of Dokkaebi, exploring their mischievous, playful, childish and often untamed qualities. Despite the mischievous qualities, Dokkaebi is still considered fair and just, often depicted as a guardian spirit against evil spirits, or bearer of good fortunes. Having multifaceted qualities, they are endearing creatures close to the psyche and heart of the Korean people. This new series imagines a Dokkaebi figurine, faceless yet captivating, bringing enchantment and auspiciousness to the domestic space.
