This collection explores the connection with my physical and emotional body, taking inspiration from organic structures as well as traditional ceramic forms. Hand-building embeds human activities of breath and movement within the vessels. Bulges, folds and dimples personify the form and further suggest the human touch, capturing the material-maker interaction and mimicking wrinkles or an excess of skin. The structures seem soft and close to collapse, contradicting the solidity and stability of material. Indented into these coils, gestural marks are a reference to my body’s movement. I derive these marks from large paintings that capture the direction of my body, translating my movements into a two-dimensional visual.
