Katie Smith is a ceramic artist based in South London, known for her hand-built vessels that feature organic, precarious forms. Her work explores concepts of maximalist and ornate surfaces, drawing inspiration from folk crafts, the human body, and our relationship with the world.
Katie's creative process is personal, reflecting her connection to her mind and body. This approach is evident in her forms and textures, which also incorporate details from nature. Through her research-driven practice, she explores the balance between mind and body.
Katie Smith, born in 1999 in Solihull, is currently based in London/West Midlands for both living and work. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Decorative Arts from Nottingham Trent University in 2021, followed by a Master’s in Designer Maker from University of the Arts London, Camberwell College in 2023. Katie is presently working as an art technician.
