Ella Porter British
Ella Porter an artist, with a background in painting, printmaking, and ceramics, showcases a strong connection between surface and form in her works. Drawing inspiration from historical ceramic artefacts, social theories, and painting concepts, she explores ideas about the maker's mark, time, traces, and place.
She is fascinated by clay's unique ability to capture the process of creation, preserving both intentional and unintentional touches making subtle changes to the clay at its malleable state. Her process involves a continuous cycle of layering and erasing, creating a sense to preserve what remains striking a balance between strength in their overall shape and a delicate quality achieved through the use of thin, tapered slabs and intricate surface textures.
In her new vessel series, Ella showcases inspiration drawn from the rectangular shape of a painter's canvas, bringing forms into a three-dimensional space. These pieces blend painting and architectural influences in both form and surface treatment.
Born in 1991 in London, Ella Porter completed her Bachelor’s in Fine Art Painting and Printmaking from Glasgow School of Art from 2011-2014 and later pursued her Master’s in 2019 in Ceramics & Glass at the Royal College of Art supported by a QEST scholarship graduating in 2021. She now lives and works in London, UK.
