Kerim Demirkan Turkish
Kerim Demirkan is a Turkish artist who studied in France and America. After living in New York and London, he moved to Cornwall, where he feels a special connection with. Living in Cornwall allowed him to explore his unique style, focusing on simple shapes that highlight the interaction of glaze and light.
In 2017, a visit to the Barbara Hepworth gallery in St. Ives inspired him with its pure sculptures, aligning with his modern artistic vision. Now living in Falmouth, he compares it to Istanbul on the Bosphorus strait, as it brings back memories of his childhood.
Kerim has a background in architecture, and he is influenced by famous figures like Zaha Hadid, known for her bold designs, and James Turrell, who creates stunning light projections. He aims to blend architecture and ceramics by making ceramic pieces with the same precision and focus on light and shadow as architectural designs.
Born in 1980 in Istanbul, Kerim Demirkan completed his Bachelor’s in Architecture. He now lives and works in Falmouth, where he also works as an Architectural Designer and a Ceramicist.
