Founded in 2022 by sisters Mentalla and Asmaa Said, Doodle and the Gang is a design studio that explores innovative forms and materials to create emotive furniture and objects that enhance our surroundings.
In their recent practice, 'Four' is a sculptural ceramic mirror that showcases the studio's fascination with clay as a medium. This wall-hung piece features a central reflective surface and three smaller mirrors on the right, while a thoughtfully placed cutout on the top left incorporates the wall's negative space into the design. The Said sisters value the sustainable and deliberate nature of hand-building ceramics, which allows for a more intimate design process compared to factory manufacturing. This approach results in natural, uneven surfaces that enhance the glazing application, creating varied shades and hues. The latest addition to the 'Four' collection is a limited edition piece that celebrates the beauty of unglazed clay. This larger version features a champagne-tinted mirror that contrasts beautifully with the raw, exposed grog clay surface.
Another notable creation by Doodle and the Gang is 'Blink', a contemporary interpretation of the hand of Fatima symbol. This hand-tufted rug features playfully sculpted edges resembling fingers with colorful tips, while the center pays homage to the traditional eye motif. Crafted from New Zealand wool and viscose, 'Blink' offers a tactile and luxurious surface suitable for use as both a floor covering and a wall-mounted art piece.
