Carla Wright British, b. 1984

Carla Wright is a British ceramicist and artist whose practice spans sculpture, sound and participatory projects. Her work is rooted in themes of connection, cooperation and togetherness, drawing on the language of social housing, community and shared public spaces to explore how structures shape collective experience.

Carla works across ceramics and mixed media, creating playful and reflective works that shift between the functional and symbolic. Merging traditional craft with contemporary forms, she transforms clay into an array of imaginative possibilities. With collaboration at the heart of her practice, Wright continually fosters collaboration through participatory projects that places community building at the forefront.

With a BA from Bath School of Art and Design, and an MA from Chelsea College of Art and Design, her work has been exhibited nationally with presentations at the British Ceramics Biennial, Towner Art Gallery and De La Warr Pavilion. Solo exhibitions include The Fudding Gossips (Volt, Devonshire Collective, Eastbourne) and Granite Flows Towards You (Coldens Gallery, St Leonards). She has had residencies at Hospitalfield (Scotland) and The Edge Arts (University of Bath) and her practice has been supported through the A-N Artist Bursary, Arts Council England Grants for the Arts and the Patrick Caufield Scholarship.

Carla is also the founder of Common Clay, a ceramics studio based in Bexhill-on-Sea, which serves as a site of production and experimentation. Here, she hopes to continue to expand on the possibilities of ceramics as a vehicle for connection, imagination and collective reflection.
