Carla Wright British, b. 1984

Carla Wright is an East Sussex-based artist specializing in ceramic sculpture, wall-based works, and participatory projects. Her art explores themes of connection, cooperation, and togetherness, drawing inspiration from social housing, community architecture, and public gathering spaces. Wright's work often incorporates motifs and fragments reminiscent of playgrounds and community center murals, reflecting her upbringing around such environments.
Wright's artistic process involves creating immediate ceramic "drawings" and larger sculptural assemblages that interact playfully and carefully with one another. She views clay as a connecting material, linking her to people, her past, and the land, while deepening her understanding of community and place. Her practice is characterized by ongoing material research, incorporating locally sourced elements such as clay, granite, quartz, ironstone, and plants into her glazes and clay bodies.
A graduate of Chelsea College of Art & Design, she was formerly part of the artist collective Vulpes Vulpes. She is the founder of Common Clay, a ceramics studio in Bexhill-on-Sea and her work has been exhibited at prestigious venues, including the British Ceramics Biennial in Stoke-on-Trent, Towner Gallery in Eastbourne, and De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill.
