Ying Zheng is a ceramic artist whose practice investigates the psychological and emotional dimensions of the human experience. Her practice engages with themes of social alienation, consumerism and intimacy, and seeks to emerge the unseen.
Using ceramic as a metaphor for the body, Zheng’s abstract sculptural forms balance the delicate interplay between stability and fluidity. The use of gloop glaze materialises as a visual language for what she describes as ‘fossilised emotion’, a way to preserve the residue of feeling within form. Through this, her work transforms psychological processes into physical artefact, inviting reflections on oneself, the body, and the landscape of human relationships.
Zheng holds an MA in Ceramics and Glass from the Royal College of Art, a BA in Design from HDK-Valand-Academy of Art and Design, and a BA in Product Design (Ceramics) from Central Academy of Fine Arts, China.
