Ekta Bagri Indian, b. 1999

Ekta Bagri works at the intersection of making and archaeology. Her work explores how vessels embody the knowledge of their own making through her use of clay, fire and field research.

Both sculptural and functional, her work operates as records of decision and transformation, where collaborations between clay, atmosphere and fire creates objects that are both artefacts of lived process and material dialogue. Bagri has completed fieldwork at Hõzangama in Bizen, had collaborations with Okayama University of Science and performed research with Onggi master, Hyangjong Oh and traditional Takatori makers, each informing her with a deep understanding on regional techniques, local materials and communal practice.

Ekta is currently a DPhil candidate at the University of Oxford. She holds an MSc in Archaeology of Asian Ceramics from the University of Oxford, an MA in Ceramics and Glass from the Royal College of London, and a BA in Fine Art and History of Art from Goldsmiths, University of London.
