Overview

Archana's practice is of British and Indian heritage and specialises in stitch and fine art textiles.
She collects and works with found memory artefacts such as old photographs, postcards, letters, diaries and maps. Through these, she has been exploring the notion of home and belonging also the interplay of memory, place and identity in it. Often these artefacts are old maps that bring forth the evolving nature of boundaries – both physical as well as psychological. Along with these constantly evolving boundaries, are the identities that are being re-shaped.

The collected artefacts are the starting point and the most important material which eventually takes the shape of the thread that she uses. She prints these artefacts on a fabric and cuts very fine laces out of these to make her threads. She, then, recreates a visual art piece by very slow, repetitive, almost meditative hand-sewing.
