Erin Hughes British, b. 1989

Erin Hughes is an artist based in Wales whose practice explores illusion, craft, and the boundaries between natural and constructed landscapes. Working primarily with hand-marbled papers, Hughes cuts, layers and collages these surfaces into compositions that echo inlaid stone, architecture and imagined terrains. Her practice draws on the traditions of pietra dura, faux-finishing and devotional craft to occupy spaces in which meticulous making meets perceptual play.

Erin holds an MA in Painting from Royal College of London and a BA in Fine Art from Ruskin School of Art, Oxford. Her recent projects include Floored//Flawed at Aberystwyth Arts Centre, commissions for Vital Arts at Newham Hospital and collaborative works with musicians, designers and fellow artists.
