Dansemblage2 is a sculptural furniture work that reimagines reclaimed materials into a tiered, multifunctional form. Built through the process of assemblage, its compact, stair-like structure shifts between chair, table, and shelf—quietly disrupting conventional domestic roles and expectations.
The title merges the Korean word dan (meaning “step”) with assemblage, reflecting both its stacked geometry and collage-inspired construction. Drawing inspiration from London’s vibrant flea markets and the sustainable ethos of traditional patchwork makers, Dansemblage2 responds to the culture of fast furniture by exploring slowness, resourcefulness, and improvisation.
Constructed entirely by hand from salvaged solid wood using traditional joinery, the piece sits between utility and sculpture. Its layered, modular character speaks to the tension between control and spontaneity.
Dansemblage2 invites viewers to consider reuse not as compromise but as creativity. It celebrates the unexpected beauty of reconfiguration—of materials, meanings, and spaces.
