Juli Bolaños-Durman Costa Rican

Juli is an Edinburgh-based artist working primarily with recycled glass. Her practice centres on hand-cutting and engraving discarded materials, transforming fragments of waste into vibrant assemblages that celebrate beauty, humour, and reinvention.

At the heart of Juli’s methodology is a playful and intuitive approach to making. Her work invites connection and conversation through humour, charm and spontaneity by using form as a vehicle to engage with broader social and environmental concerns.

Originally from Costa Rica, Juli relocated to Scotland in 2011 to complete an MFA at Edinburgh College of Art. Her work has been exhibited internationally, with presentations at Make Hauser & Wirth (Somerset) and the Corning Museum of Glass (USA). Her work is held in the collections of MUDAC (Lausanne), Manchester Metropolitan University, and the National Glass Centre (Sunderland), amongst others. She has also been commissioned by the Royal Edinburgh Hospital, where her work continues to foster reflection and delight within public spaces.
