Jihyun Kim South Korean, b. 1997

Jihyun Kim is a ceramic designer whose practice navigates the space between function and enchantment. Drawing on her South Korean heritage and a fascination with nature’s hidden architectures, she creates works that blend utility with sculptural imagination. Rooted in organic motifs, such as fungi, her forms weave narratives centred on transformation, growth and wonder.

Working primarily in clay, Kim shapes objects that speak to both ancestral tradition and the surreal possibilities of everyday life. Through exploring the interplay between the familiar and the fantastical, her ceramics serve not only as functional objects, but as a gateway to new ways of seeing and sensing.

Kim is a graduate of the Royal College of Art and has a Master of Arts in Ceramics and Glass. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at Milan Design Week and the British Ceramic Biennale.
