In this artwork, lavender seeds are used, a plant which is known to grow successfully in a dry Mediterranean climate. Thus the damp, wet soil of Worcestershire in the summer of 2024 presented an unlikely environment for this plant to thrive in. Yet still, on the floodlines of Worcestershire, the seeds of lavender bloomed.
Through acts of metta (a Buddhist teaching and Pali for loving kindness,) gentle nurturing, and compassion – Katerina putting her faith in nature, and patiently waiting in hope, nature still rewarded her with the soothing seeds and small blue gems of lavender which gave life to this artwork.
