Gaya Vartanyan Armenian
Gaya Vartanyan, an artist is captivated by the transformative nature of clay and its ability to bridge the gap between humanity and the natural world. Her work reflects the tactility of ceramics exploring the delicate balance between controlled abstraction and raw, natural qualities.
Gaya intentionally exposes the clay's texture, investigating the interplay between what is visible and what is hidden. The surfaces of the vases tell stories through these contrasts, embodying the idea of something essential yet often overlooked.
In the process of her research for inner balance, she is inspired by minimalist forms representing the pursuit of simplicity and harmony. In contrast to the rough surfaces of black textured clay highlighting the tension between chaos and calm, and reconciliation, she finds the balance in her work emerging from opposite elements.
Born in 1989, in Tbilisi, Georgia, Gaya Vartanyan, completed her bachelors in Architecture from the Imperial Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg, Russia and later pursued her Master’s in Architecture from London Metropolitan University from London, UK. She now lives and works in London, UK.
